About Us

About the Company

Etho Metho (Rhododendron in Dzongkha) is one of the oldest and most experienced tour operators in Bhutan. The company was founded in 1990 by Dago, Jochu & Nim who were colleagues in the former government-run Tourism Department. Etho Metho was formally established in 1991 when tourism was privatized. In 2008, Etho Metho became a private limited company with the addition of Sangay, a loyal employee, as the fourth director.
Through our collective experiences in the tourism industry and the goodwill generated from our clients and the local community, we have been able to rise from a very modest beginning to the very top. Currently, we have a total of 55 permanent staff comprising of an efficient office team, experienced guides and drivers, and a professionally trained trekking team. We also have a well maintained fleet of Toyota vehicles.

Why Us?

Guided by the values instilled by our Kings

We prioritize the impact of our actions on both the environment and our people. Preserving our unique culture and heritage is important to us, differentiating Bhutan from other destinations. We are committed to collaborating with travel partners and clients who share our values, respect our people, and appreciate our culture. We strive to avoid the pitfalls of mass tourism. Our commitment lies in promoting high value – low impact tourism, encapsulated by our motto: “take nothing but photographs and leave nothing but footprints.” This  guides us as we introduce visitors to the Kingdom of Bhutan!

Niche Travel Products

Our Product Division Team is dedicated to developing niche products exclusively crafted for our travel partners and guests. We are experts in our field, combining extensive knowledge with strong connections in our destinations. We are able to deliver experiences and products tailored to our clients’ needs.

Safety and Security

The safety and security of our guests is of utmost importance to us, and we ensure their well being in every aspect, from the types of excursions and travel products we endorse to the selection of hotels and restaurants. We meticulously vet vendors, only opting for those we deem safe, reliable, and dependable. Our commitment extends beyond our travelers; we also prioritize the safety and well being of our employees. Recognizing that our employees are instrumental in our success, we consider their care equally important. Our employees are the cornerstone of our achievements, and safeguarding their welfare is also of utmost significance.

Giving back to the community

Our entire workforce comprises Bhutanese employees, and we take it a step further by collaborating with local companies for all aspects of our business. Our commitment is rooted in the belief that the proceeds from tourism should not solely benefit the travel companies but also contribute to the welfare of the people of Bhutan. We are committed to making a positive impact on the local community.

Customer Service

Our travelers invest a substantial amount to explore Bhutan, contributing through the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) set at $100 per person per night. The SDF serves as a daily levy, supporting Bhutan’s development. These funds are channeled into diverse projects that enhance facilities, services, and infrastructure for both Bhutanese nationals and visitors. They also contribute to funding free healthcare and education initiatives. We are extremely grateful to our travelers for their valuable contributions and refer to the travelers as “goems,” which translates to guests”. As a family run business, we are able to personally oversee operations, allowing us to deliver personalized services and ensuring exceptional customer care.
